Panel announced for Documentary film A Place at the Table
to be shown by Westport Cinema Initiative Sunday April 28th

Westport Cinema Initiative announced the panel for the talkback which immediately follows our upcoming screening of A Place at the Table on Sunday, April 28th at 4 p.m. at the Westport Town Hall auditorium. In keeping with the subject matter of the film, the panel will feature three notable local activists working with the issues of hunger and “food insecurity” in our region.

Michel Nischan is a renowned chef and leader in the sustainable food movement, as well as a two-time James Beard Foundation Award winner. He is the owner and founder of Dressing Room restaurant in Westport, as well as President/CEO of the Wholesome Wave Foundation, based in Bridgeport. The mission of Wholesome Wave is to overhaul the nation’s food system by increasing access to healthy, fresh and affordable locally grown food.

Also on the panel is Bun Lai, of Miya’s Sushi in New Haven, a chef, environmentalist and social activist who is passionate about climate change, sustainable living practices and rethinking the way “life should be lived and business should be done.”

The third panelist is Kevin Mullins, the Executive Director of Community Plates, a non-profit organization connecting surplus food from restaurants and other sources to food-insecure households throughout the U.S.

The panel will be moderated by the Rev. Alison Buttrick Patton, of the Saugatuck Church in Westport.

Stamford’s Avon moves to Digital

ABC News covered the end of an era with Stamford’s Avon theater removing their original 35mm projector and going digital. This is an industry phenomena, but 35mm isn’t quite dead yet. Within the Westport Cinema Initiative we’ve had many discussions about how preserve a 35mm legacy, and we’re going to try to do so — yes, we’ll have state of the art digital projection but 35mm will be in the mix as well. What do you think about that?

Westport Cinema Initiative presents a screening of “Hello I Must Be Going” starring Blyth Danner. The film was shot in Westport and written and directed by Westport residents Todd Louiso and Sarah Koskoff. The film was well received at last year’s Sundance Film Festival receiving a Grand Jury Prize nomination and tells a story where circumstances force a young divorcée to move back in with her parents in suburban Connecticut, where an affair with a younger guy rejuvenates her passion for life. The film is rated R.

The movie will be shown on Sun Mar 24 at Westport Town Hall at 4 pm, 110 Myrtle Ave Westport
