2001: A Space Odyssey Special Event, Sat Mar 25, 4 pm Town Hall

Talkback to follow with actor Keir Dullea (Dr. Dave Bowman) and film critic Susan Granger. Ms. Granger included 2001: A Space Odyssey in her 2016 book 150 Timeless Movies.

In 1968, Stanley Kubrick gave the world 2001: A Space Odyssey; this film would become one of the most referenced and revered of all time. The movie sparks discussions from Evolution to Artificial Intelligence to the existence of Extraterrestrial Life.

In 1996, Roger Ebert had this to say about the then three-decade-old film: “It is meditative. It does not cater to us, but wants to inspire us, enlarge us. Nearly 30 years after it was made, it has not dated in any important detail, and although special effects have become more versatile in the computer age, Trumbull’s work remains completely convincing — more convincing, perhaps, than more sophisticated effects in later films, because it looks more plausible, more like documentary footage than like elements in a story.”
